Canberra Physical Culture Club

What is Physical Culture?

Physical Culture, which is often called Physi, is a great sport for girls and women of all ages. Junior classes cater for young girls ranging in age from four to thirteen years, senior classes are for those aged fourteen years and over and we also have ladies classes. Lessons are choreographed to music and follow a carefully structured syllabus. There are different degrees of difficulty for the age groups. The senior classes do a cardio-funk warm-up and higher impact work. Exercises for all ages are designed to enhance flexibility, strength, agility, poise and deportment.

Children especially benefit by improving their coordination, concentration, balance and stamina. All this whilst having fun…..

The Canberra Club

The Canberra Club has been in existence for the past 15 years. Our teacher, Maree Wilson has had a lifelong association with Physical Culture. The classes are held at St Thomas School Hall, Boddington Cres Kambah on Tuesday afternoons and St Anthony's School Hall, Wheeler Crescent Wanniassa on Thursday afternoons.

Special Events

Whilst the main focus during the year is on learning the syllabus and preparing for competition, the Physical Culture clubs are also involved in main events such as, the opening ceremony of the Rugby League Grand Final and the Darling Harbour Christmas Concert, which is telecast nationally. Physical Culture members were involved in the 2000 Sydney Olympic opening and closing ceremonies as well as the Centenary of Federation Parade.
