Basketball
Tuggeranong Vikings Basketball Club
Objectives
To develop and promote the game of basketball in the Tuggeranong Valley,
and to facilitate the community to participate and enjoy basketball. With
the growth of the Club over recent seasons, the Club is endeavouring to
train all coaches, enabling all players to gain the most from playing
basketball. The player base is also growing enabling the Club to field
three teams in the junior elite competition in 2001. The Club is planning
to enter teams in the senior elite competition within the next two seasons.
History
The Tuggeranong Vikings Basketball Club was formed in 1984. Over the past
years we have seen our team numbers grow. Competition is played at the
Southside Basketball Stadium, Phillip and the Belconnen Basketball Stadium,
and the new Tuggeranong Indoor Sports Centre at Greenway.
Competition
The main junior competition (the Championship season) is run over the
second and third school terms of each year (April to September). A
challenge competition is also run over the fourth and first terms. No
matches are scheduled during school holidays.
Registration fees are set by the Basketball Association, and while these
have increased over the years, players' fees are generally subsidised
through regular Club fundraising, and there is a discount for members of
Viking licensed clubs.
The Junior Competition is graded into Under 10's, Under 12's Under 14's,
Under 16's and Under 18's for both boys and girls. The games are played
over the weekend with a few age groups being played on weekday evenings.
The senior Competition is played from Sunday to Friday evenings.
