TUGGERANONG VIKINGS JUNIOR RUGBY

TUGGERANONG VIKINGS JUNIOR RUGBY

TUGGERANONG VIKINGS JUNIOR RUGBY

It has been an interesting year so far for the boys from the south. Many of our teams have enjoyed success in the junior ranks of local rugby and some will be going on to contest the semi finals in September. But most importantly they all are having fun, hopefully.

This year the Junior Vikings are proud to have welcomed a number of corporate sponsors to our supporting ranks: CTM Insurance brokers, Capital Chemist Kambah, Dominic Bason and son Concreting, Fyshwick Metalwork, Fyshwick Tyre Service and Schoer Consultancy and Training have all taken up sponsorship deals with us. This year has also seen the continuation of our 'Gala days' which sees the majority of our teams playing at Gowrie, home of the Vikings! These days have proved to be a very enjoyable occasion for our boys and their families with BBQ's, jumping castles, face painting and most importantly lots of rugby.

Another of our recent additions to the junior ranks has been the introduction or rekindling of "old boys" rugby. With the "Hagar's" of Tuggeranong heading to Jindabyne for a match against the "Saw boars" of Jindabyne. Some 13 dads and friends of the Junior Vikings made the 2 hour journey to meet our foe on a somewhat soggy and thankfully softer battleground at Jindabyne. The day wasn't to be marred by the inclement weather which seemed to be localized over Jindabyne. 9 all was the result, decided by a somewhat dubious if not biased referee (shown wearing the tutu before the game) and a clear set of regulations were set out for all to abide. A great match was had by all with energy levels stretched; cob webs brushed off and muscles that had been forgotten were rediscovered and punished. The match was played with an intensity not seen before on a rugby pitch. As the score line suggests it was a tightly fought battle, end to end rugby which was fittingly finished with Steve "sneaky" Peak being held up over the try line; White line fever perhaps? With a rematch scheduled at our home ground on our next 'Gala day' we will no doubt be in for another epic battle fitting of our tales of days gone by.

To anyone who is interested in playing junior rugby please check out our website at
